Before the Sahara, Europe was crossed with official receptions for example in St. Petersburg and Warsaw with the mayor, city council representatives and delegations of the national automobile organization. Last preparations were made for the Sahara, one of the most challenging parts of the Rally. Crossing the Sahara sandstorms, dehydration, food poisoning, crashes, navigation issues and temperatures above 55º C. had to be overcome.
